At the recent Spring Loaded event, Apple finally announced the long rumored AirTags. And at first look, it is just a regular bluetooth tracker. But the price is not regular at all and frankly, I think that it is very overpriced but this is Apple we’re talking about.

Now, if it is a regular bluetooth tracker, what makes it better than the regular bluetooth trackers that can be found for much cheaper prices such as the ones made by Tile. The answer is the Find My ecosystem.

Now this was not that significant before the launch of the AirTags. It is a nice feature to have whenever you need to find a device, but with the launch of the AirTags, this has become a big advantage for apple.

The AirTags work fine for things like keys or wallets which you might have forgotten around the house, but the real feature is the Lost Mode. When you activate Lost mode, the AirTag attached to your object will contact other devices in the Find My network to pinpoint the location.

If anyone finds your object, they can tap on it with their phone as it is NFC capable which then leads them to your contact details. This works on both Android and iOS devices.

Now, if you are an apple customer, and have an iPhone, what would you go for? Would you buy a generic bluetooth tracker for cheap, or would you pay a little extra for the AirTags and use the advanced Find My network and all the features that come with it?

In the end, what makes the AirTags special is not the product itself, but the powerful Find My network that Apple has been developing slowly leading up to the release of the AirTags.
